12M2O Lead Firefighter
Serves as a Lead Firefighter for a Modular Ammunition Company; directly responsible for the overall management and accountability of two fully equipped fire trucks and ten sets of firefighting gear with associated equipment valued in excess of $1.3 million; responsible for the development, execution, and proficiency sustainment of the company firefighting section training; directly responsible for the overall management, supervision, training, professional development, health, and welfare of six Soldiers.
Firefighter
Conducts rescue and firefighting operations during fires, aircraft and vehicle accidents, and natural disasters; provides and performs emergency response for hazardous materials incidents; assists law enforcement and medical personnel when necessary; maintains lifesaver qualification; provides first aid to injured personnel; tests hydrant and fire suppression systems and alarms; maintains records and reports; operates and performs operator level maintenance on equipment and vehicles;
Senior Firefighter
Oversees firehouse operations; maintains personnel training and qualifications; educates base agencies on risks and fire resources; conducts fire prevention operations including routine, recurring inspections and pre-fire planning; analyzes vulnerabilities and hazards and develops plans to mitigate potential damage; coordinates with all agencies to identify hazardous materials and risks; prepares for hazardous materials emergency response; tests hydrant and alarm systems; conducts initial fire investigations.
MOS 12M - Firefighter
Major Duties. The firefighter supervises or provides fire prevention and protection, firefighting, technical rescue, urban search and rescue and hazardous materials response capabilities to prevent or minimize injury, loss of life, and damage to property and the environment throughout a range of military operations. Duties for MOS 12M at each level of skill are:
MOSC 12M10. The Firefighter performs Engineer F&ES tasks under the direction of the Lead Firefighter and Station Chief; performs rescue and firefighting operations during structural fires, aircraft emergencies, vehicle emergencies, and wildland fires; performs emergency response during hazardous materials incidents to include ordnance; performs urban search and rescue and technical rescue duties; performs as the driver operator of an engineer F&ES vehicle; maintains certification to operate engineer F&ES vehicles assigned to the team; maintains firefighting equipment and vehicles during emergency and non-emergency operations.
MOSC 12M20. The Lead Firefighter or Crash Rescue Sergeant leads team personnel at the scene of an emergency and conducts and records team level training as directed by the fire station chief; directs rescue and firefighting operations during structural fires, aircraft emergencies, vehicle emergencies, and wildland fires; directs emergency response crews during hazardous materials incidents to include ordnance; directs urban search and rescue and technical rescue operations as directed by the Fire Chief or Fire Marshal.
MOSC 12M30. Serves as fire station chief; supervises the team in all engineer F&ES missions; acts as Senior Fire Officer during initial response to an emergency; assume responsibilities of Fire Chief in the absence of a supporting headquarters; provides fire inspection and prevention capability in support of activities in a base camp; provides expeditionary fire inspections and limited fire prevention functions including hazard assessments, public fire safety education, and facilities plans reviews; maintains the current status of the engineer F&ES team equipment and supplies for 24-hour continuous missions and resupply after the missions; coordinates for recharging and servicing of SCBA and firefighting agents for mission vehicles.
MOSC 12M40. Serves as the noncommissioned officer in charge and SFO for all engineer F&ES at the Army, corps, division, and brigade level for an AO; advises the fire marshal, fire inspector, mayor cell, forward engineer support team, and commander of force protection issues relating to engineer F&ES; establishes and directs engineer F&ES planning and coordination; works with the fire marshal in establishing and directing a FACC; provides engineer F&ES management oversight; establishes a fire prevention and inspection program to include training; advises senior leadership on minimizing loss of life, property damage, life safety, and limiting damage from fire that would seriously degrade mission capability; serves as incident commander during major engineer F&ES incidents and is the operations section chief or branch director (fire protection) when not employed as the incident commander in the National Incident Management System (NIMS) hierarchy of incident command.
