TACP Chief
Leads and mentors a flight of 30 TACP; responsible for all JTAC training and development; supervises 3 team leads; maintains Joint Terminal Attack Controller (JTAC) mission ready status, as well as current instructor and evaluator; advises and assists ground commanders and staff with Close Air Support (CAS) integration and planning requests; provides 45th IBCT and 1/34 ABCT expertise and capability to employ air assets essential to joint combat operations.
JTAC
Serves as Joint Terminal Attack Controller (JTAC) in a Tactical Air Control Party; directs the action of combat aircraft engaged in close air support (CAS) and other offensive air operations from a forward position; coordinates with other units in a theater of operation and synchronizes combat action by aircraft, drones, and helicopters; advises supported units on options to best employ air support; participates in headquarters planning and in develops training scenarios.
JTAC Instructor
Serves as Joint Terminal Attack Controller (JTAC) Instructor; trains joint military students in procedures to request, control, and adjust surface-to-surface fires, provide timely and accurate targeting information in support of Close Air Support (CAS) to a JTAC, Forward Air Controller (Airborne) (FAC(A)), or directly to aircraft when authorized by the controlling Tactical Air Coordinator (Airborne) (TAC(A)); evaluates academic and practical performance.
JTAC
Serves as JTAC in a Tactical Air Control Party; provides Type 1 (visually acquire), Type 2 (use targeting data from another source) and Type 3 (comply with rules of engagement) air control; coordinates close air support attacks using targeting information from an observer or other asset; maintains control of attacks; makes clearance decisions or abort calls based on the information provided by additional observers or targeting sensors; minimizes collateral damage and the risk of friendly fire when employing airpower in close proximity to friendly forces.
