FOR VALOR IN CONNECTION WITH GROUND OPERATIONS DURING OPERATION DESERT STORM. STAFF SERGEANT PARKER DISTINGUISHED HIMSELF ON 19 FEBRUARY 1991 WHILE SERVING AS TANK COMMANDER DURING COMBAT OPERATIONS IN SUPPORT OF THE LIBERATION OF KUWAIT. WHILE ENGAGING WITH IRAQI NATIONAL TROOPS, STAFF SERGEANT PARKER'S TANK CAME UNDER GROUND RPG AND SMALL ARMS FIRE FROM AN UNIDENTIFIED ENEMY FORCE. WHEN SERGEANT PARKER'S TANK BECAME DISABLED AND SEPARATED FROM HIS BATTALON, HE, ALTHOUGH WOUNDED, IMMEDIATELY TOOK CHARGE AND ENGAGED THE ATTACKING FORCE. While serving as a 19K in support of the 1/16 CAV, SGT Martinez personally mentored multiple Soldiers in all aspects of MOS knowledge. He trained and qualified many Soldiers in the platoon on a variety of equipment. He taught Soldiers how to properly fill out the DA Form 5988-E for their equipment and how to update them to document services, as well as keep them fully operational and mission ready for any task at hand. SGT Martinez always placed the welfare of his Soldiers first and always completed the mission.
