Staff Sergeant Alex K. Porter distinguished himself by meritorious service while serving as Language Analyst, 34th Intelligence Squadron, 969th Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconaissance Group, 70th Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconaissance Wing, Fort George Meade, Maryland. During this period, as the Air Defense SIGINT Analysis Team Language Lead, Sergeant Porter oversaw the translation of over one hundred target communications, providing critical intelligence on adversary Research and Development groups to the Navy and Air Force service components as well as other members of the Intelligence Community. Additionally, he exposed the vulnerablities of a weapon system developed and proliferated by his mission's target. This information comprised the basis for the Air Defense Team's first product report, and set the bar for future reports produced by his team. Furthermore, Sergeant Porter filled in key intelligence gaps for NSA Texas by translating a collected document using three languges, steering SOUTHCOM's efforts to counter the proliferation of Weapons of Mass destruction. Lastly, Sergeant Porter discovered the international sale of an indigenous Integrated Air Defense System, detailing both current and future air defense options for all countries involved. This information shaped Air Operations for multiple areas of responsibility to include PACOM and AFRICOM. The distinctive accomplishments of Sergeant Porter reflect credit upon himself, the 34th Intelligence Squadron and the United States Air Force.
