SFC Snuffy served as an Airborne EOD Team Leader and Platoon Sergeant in the 123D OD CO (EOD) and 456TH OD CO (EOD) from October 2015 through July 2019. He led his Soldiers through a Joint Readiness Training Center rotation, a Joint Operations Access Exercise, three Validation Exercises, two Global Response Force (GRF) cycles, and Home Land Response (HLR) for two installations and surrounding counties. His dedication directly contributed to increased readiness and protection for personnel on/around FBNC and FJSC.
MERITORIOUS SERVICE WHILE SERVING AS CHIEF AMMUNITION NCO, 224TH SUSTAINMENT BRIGADE, LONG BEACH CALIFORNIA FROM XXXXXXXX TO XXXXXXX. DURING THIS PERIOD, SERGEANT FIRST CLASS JOHN N. ROSE DISTINGUISHED HIMSELF IN THE PERFORMANCE OF OUTSTANDING SERVICE AS AN AMMUNITION LOGISTIC NCO WHILE DEPLOYED IN IRAQ. SFC ROSE IDENTIFIED A SERIOUS HAZARD INVOLVING ILLUMINATION STAR CLUSTER SIGNAL FLARES, INITIATED A SAFETY REPORT, AND FORWARDED IT TO HIGHER COMMAND AND THE ARMY SAFETY BOARD. SFC ROSE THEN ASSISTED THE QUALITY ASSURANCE SPECIALIST AMMUNITION SURVEILLANCE (QASAS) IN FORWARD OPERATING BASE TALIL ADDER IN THE INVESTIGATION OF TWO INCIDENTS WHERE SOLDIERS RECEIVED BURNS WHILE REPACKING FLARES AT THE ASP IN FOB ADDER. IN ADDITION, HE COORDINATED WITH QASAS TO MAKE A SAFETY VIDEO ON THE HANDLING AND REPACKING OF THE ILLUMINATION STAR CLUSTER IN THE PA142 PLASTIC CONTAINER NOW BEING DISTRUBUTED ARMY WIDE. THE STERLING ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF SERGEANT ROSE REFLECT GREAT CREDIT UPON HIMSELF, THE 224TH SUSTAINMENT BRIGADE, THE CALIFORNIA ARMY NATIONAL GUARD AND THE UNITED STATES ARMY.
SPC Durden successfully completed one stateside EOD response incident as a Team Member in support of local law enforcement agencies, resulting in the safe removal and disposition of all hazardous items without injury to personnel or damage to property. He also supported the Very Important Persons Protective Service Activity on a mission as a Team Member. His attention to detail and tireless work ethic ensured the safety of the President of the United States and other foreign dignitaries.
FOR PROFESSIONAL ACHIEVEMENT IN THE PERFORMANCE OF HIS DUTIES WHILE SERVING AS EOD2 TECHNICIAN (USMC) DIRECTLY ATTACHED TO 5TH SPECIAL FORCES OPERATION DETATCHMENT ALPHA (SF-ODA) FROM MARCH 2019 THROUGH OCTOBER 2019. STAFF SERGEANT ANTHONY O. CHAVEZ PERFORMED HIS DUTIES IN AN EXEMPLARY AND HIGHLY PROFESSIONAL MANNER. DURING COMBAT PREPARATION AND OPERATIONS, STAFF SERGEANT CHAVEZ EXEMPLIFIED A LEVEL OF KNOWLEDGE, EXECUTION AND THE ABILITY TO LEAD TROOPS OF DIFFERENT BRANCHES AND MILITARY OCCUPATIONAL SPECIALTIES. WHILE UNDER HEAVY ENEMY ENGAGEMENT, STAFF SERGEANT CHAVEZ REGAINED AND MAINTAINED CONTROL AS TROOP COMMANDER IN ORDER TO SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETE MISSIONS AT HAND. STAFF SERGEANT CHAVEZ'S MANAGERIAL ABILITY, PERSONAL INITIATIVE AND UNWAVERING DEVOTION TO DUTY REFLECTED CREDIT UPON HIMSELF AND WERE IN KEEPING WITH THE HIGHEST TRADITIONS OF THE UNITED STATES NAVAL SERVICE.
