West Virginia Distinguished Service Medal. The West Virginia Distinguished Service Medal may be awarded to members of the West Virginia National Guard who have rendered conspicuous or distinguished service or who have demonstrated courage and gallantry while on duty.

West Virginia Legion of Merit. The West Virginia Legion of Merit may be awarded for exceptional meritorious service, achievement, or bravery to civilian and military members of the West Virginia National Guard.

West Virginia Meritorious Service Medal. The West Virginia Meritorious Service Medal may be awarded to any civilian or member of the West Virginia National Guard who distinguishes him- or herself by acts of heroism, outstanding achievement, or meritorious service but to a lesser degree than that required for award of the West Virginia Legion of Merit.

West Virginia Commendation Medal. The West Virginia Commendation Medal may be awarded to any person who distinguishes him- or herself by performing especially meritorious public service or achievement or displays exceptional bravery that is of sufficient importance to merit recognition, but to a lesser degree than required for award of the West Virginia Meritorious Service Medal.

West Virginia Achievement Medal. The West Virginia Achievement Medal may be awarded to any member of the West Virginia National Guard who distinguishes him- or herself by service or act(s) that are of sufficient importance to merit recognition but to a lesser degree than required for award of the West Virginia Commendation Medal.

West Virginia Emergency Service Ribbon. The West Virginia Emergency Service Ribbon is authorized for any member of the West Virginia National Guard who is ordered to active duty by the Governor in response to civil unrest or natural disaster or similar events or who serves honorably for at least 30 days in the U.S. Armed Forces as a member of the West Virginia National Guard called or ordered to service by the President of the United States.

West Virginia State Service Ribbon. The West Virginia State Service Ribbon shall be presented to any member of the West Virginia National Guard who is ordered to any period of active service of the State pursuant to West Virginia Code.

West Virginia Service Ribbon. The West Virginia Service Ribbon is awarded to any member of the West Virginia National Guard who completes five years of honorable service to the West Virginia National Guard. Every additional period of five years of honorable service is denoted by an oak leaf cluster.

West Virginia Minuteman Ribbon. The West Virginia Minuteman Ribbon is awarded to any member of the West Virginia National Guard who is solely responsible for the enlistment of five individuals in the West Virginia Army or Air National Guard during a 180-day period. Three of the five enlistees must be non-prior service.

West Virginia Distinguished Unit Award. The West Virginia Distinguished Unit Award is awarded to units or organizations, not larger than squadron or battalion, which have distinguished themselves by outstanding achievement or meritorious service in support of military operations, or in support of the state or nation, not involving combat operations against an enemy. The West Virginia Distinguished Unit Award may also be awarded to any West Virginia National Guard unit or organization serving on active duty with the U.S. Armed Forces. In all instances, the achievement or service must clearly set the unit or organization apart from similar units or organizations. Normally, only one unit or organization will be awarded the West Virginia Distinguished Unit Award for participation in a specific activity or for a certain achievement or period of service.

Multiple Awards. When members of the West Virginia National Guard are entitled to subsequent awards or decorations as described above, the subsequent award will be indicated by a bronze oak leaf cluster on the ribbon or medal. A silver oak leaf cluster indicates six awards (with the basic ribbon counting as the first). A bronze oak leaf cluster denotes award of the second through fifth award and a silver oak leaf cluster denotes the sixth award.

For the West Virginia Service Ribbon, the basic ribbon will be issued for five years of service. A bronze oak leaf cluster will be awarded for each additional five year period representing 10, 15, 20, and 25 years of service. A silver oak leaf cluster will be awarded as the fifth device representing a total of 30 years of service. A silver oak leaf cluster with 1, 2, or 3 bronze oak leaf clusters will represent 35, 40, or 45 years of service.
