Staff Sergeant Wendell Holmes distinguished himself while serving as Information Manager, Information Management Office, 62d Communications Squadron, McChord Air Force Base, Washington. During this period, Sergeant Holmes supervised the command section's electronic workflow ensuring day-to-day operations which served 188 personnel with one hundred percent reliability. He also improved the distribution system and liaison process, saving more than thirty five hundred dollars a year as a member of the Air Force Smart Operations for the 21st Century team. Additionally, he configured 300 computers for the 2017 Air Mobility Command Airlift RODEO supporting 52 teams, 36 events, and 70 aircraft resulting in the largest and best Airlift RODEO to date. Finally, Sergeant Holmes displayed his versatility by performing duties as Base Official Mail Center Noncommissioned Officer in Charge, where he identified a meter failure, procured appropriated funds for 113 packages and repaired the meter within 24 hours with no delivery interruptions. Staff Sergeant Holmes' actions are in keeping with the finest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, the 62d Communications Squadron and the United States Air Force.




Meritorious service while serving as Section Chief, Base Network Infrastructure, and Superintendent, Wing Exercise and Evaluations, 87th Communications Squadron, 87th Air Base Wing, Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, New Jersey. During this period, Master Sergeant Schlegel managed the base Information Management consolidation initiative and integrated 23 Information Managers into the Network Control Center, reducing 125 system administration positions and ultimately saving over six hundred thousand dollars. Additionally, Sergeant Schlegel orchestrated Command, Control, Communications, and Computers capabilities for 14 government agencies and 140 personnel in support of Operation BURNT FROST, United States Strategic Command's forward deployed high priority satellite recovery mission. Moreover, as Wing Exercise and Evaluations chief, he led squadron Operational Readiness Inspection preparations and scoured 188 readiness files and postured 24 deploying personnel. His tireless efforts contributed to the wing's only functional area "Outstanding" rating. Finally, he established the installation's Joint Base Control Center, coordinating communication requirements and configuring equipment to ensure continuous connectivity with 7,000 personnel during installation contingency operations. The singularly distinctive accomplishments of Master Sergeant Schlegel reflect great credit upon himself, the 87th Communications Squadron and the United States Air Force.
