SUBJECT: Memorandum for Record - Ownership and Accountability
Purpose. The purpose of this memorandum is to formally express my ownership and accountability regarding my academic performance during the Basic Officer Leader Course (BOLC).
Discussion. I, 2LT Deven J. Andrews, take full responsibility for my academic result and do not offer any excuses. CPT Jackson was my instructor and demonstrated exceptional teaching ability. CPT Jose A. Quinones, my TAC Officer, has been an outstanding leader and role model throughout this course.
Falling short in performance is deeply disappointing. However, I understand that setbacks are part of leadership and life. What defines us as leaders is how we respond to those challenges. I accept this situation with humility and determination to improve. I am committed to showing up daily with intent, focus, and a mindset geared toward growth and excellence.
I respectfully request the opportunity to be retained with my current classmates and TAC. This experience is not solely about me -it's about the team I've grown with, the standards we hold, and the pride I take in being part of something greater. My desire to succeed is genuine. I care deeply about my development as a leader and am committed to doing the work required.
I scored a 578 on the Army Combat Fitness Test (ACFT) and completed a four-mile run in 24 minutes. I share this not to boast, but to highlight the level of discipline and commitment I bring to all aspects of my development. I aim to carry this same energy into my academic performance moving forward.
Conclusion. I fully accept the responsibility for my current standing and ask for the opportunity to continue forward with the intent to improve. I will not allow this to define my career or my identity as a leader. I am dedicated to bouncing back stronger and proving my capability to myself, my team, and the Army.
